“Savoring My Roots” is more than just a cookbook. It is a journey into my Ukrainian heritage, a celebration of family recipes, and a testament to the power of food to connect us to our roots.Growing up in a Ukrainian household with immigrant parents, my mom’s cooking created lasting memories and a deep appreciation for my cultural heritage. “Savoring My Roots” is my way of preserving these traditions and sharing them with others. Before the creation of this cookbook, these recipes were all memorized by my mom and grandma. If I ever needed one of these recipes, I would call my mom and she would walk me through it. Now I will always have this cookbook full of my favorite recipes that allow me to stay connected to my Ukrainian roots through food.
Through family recipes, handwritten notes, and carefully crafted layouts, I’ve finally brought this project to life. Each recipe is a piece of my family’s history that has been passed down through generations, accompanied by stories, photos, and memories. The design of this book is meant to be warm, friendly, and comforting while also being practical and easy to follow. Ukrainian food might not be the most popular cuisine for most people, but I hope it will inspire people to try new foods and explore a new culture.
This project is deeply personal to me while also reflecting my passion for design, storytelling, and cultural preservation. As you explore “Savoring My Roots”, I hope you’ll not only enjoy the delicious Ukrainian dishes, but also gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the traditions, values, and experiences that have shaped my identity.
