Threads that Bind Us

A caterpillar liquifies itself to start the process of transformation, a system of dismantling and destruction to rebuild its understanding of itself. Threads that Bind Us acts as my own reckoning with internal structures that have guided my actions. My history, concepts of my body, the process of healing, acceptance of myself, and my identity influence the directions that I take within the process of artwork creation. I look outwards to the history of the art world, influences from popular culture, poetry, and theory, as these elements allow a broader understanding of the global conversation being held around the socially accepted range of bodies, queerness, and healthy ways to heal. Gathering this collection of knowledge leads me to combine internal research with external research in an experimental style of art-making through installation, animation, painting, sewing, and sculpture. The process comes in bursts of creation where ideas explode outwards.
