Picnic Basket

The picnic as we know it has been a social tradition since at least the 19th Century. It’s a gathering for the sake of gathering, a celebration of quality time spent with good food and drink, conversation, and the carefree passage of time. The picnic can be solace or reprieve, an escape from or a solution to. The picnic is in honor of its participants and the connections between them. The picnic is for everyone, a ritual defined by its picnickers.

Picnic Basket is a symbol of that experience, a traditional set of objects elevated by form and material. Brass, leather, porcelain and wood sit alongside industrial plastics, taking the place of the woven wicker and gingham of picnic sets of the 20th Century.

Picnic Basket is a meeting between the old and new, the ritual and playful, the grown up and the youthful. Perhaps more importantly, Picnic Basket is a marriage between the digital and the physical.

Picnic Basket and the picnics it provides for are for a life post-covid. They are a solution to the distance and isolation felt during the pandemic, and are a response to the illusion of connectivity through screens, online social networks and digital media.

Picnic Basket is for going outside with the people you care about to celebrate going outside with the people you care about.
