Parasitic Princess

Parasitic Princess is a 40 page emulation of a monthly magazine that also shares characteristics of a personal diary and scrapbook. Each page of this book is something different, whether it be photographs, activities or drawings. In this project, I have used my personal style in combination with dark kawaii aesthetics, 2000’s nostalgia, and as I like to call it “hyper-cuteness” (loud colors, cluttered compositions etc). For me, this book is catharsis, celebration, and reflection. For a variety of reasons, much of my young adult life was spent trying to occupy as little space as I possibly could in the quietest way imaginable. I’ve been coming out of my shell these last few years and my thesis is the first opportunity I have had to be unapologetically myself in an academic setting. I finally feel free and safe to be myself. Intrinsically, I am loud, vulgar, messy and impulsive. Parasitic Princess is a celebration of this.
