She Wanted to Be Called Mary is an investigation of my mother’s identity as a woman in which I use my own body, house, and objects to create a likeness to her so that I may better understand her. By recreating moments loosely based on memories and ideas of her I am able to examine her for the first time just as a woman and not as my mother.
