Trash Art
This multi-faceted body of work tells the story of how garbage reveals the intimate details about a community: how it lives, works, and functions. The trash comes from the Cedar Hills, Pearl District, Chinatown, the Waterfront, NE Alberta St and NE Killingsworth. These standing sculptures are made up of material collected from the streets and sidewalks of these six different areas of Portland, OR. The found discarded materials, or cultural artifacts, are tended to, distorted and handled with care in order to become art material. “Trash Art” merges the dark side of commercial production and a consumer society with the love and folly that is the human condition.
