Cassandra Laurion MFA Visual Studies Thesis Spring 2018

Background, Middle Ground, Foreground

Background, Middle Ground, Foreground explores the relationship between signs, symbols and debris in connection to ones identity. These signs and symbols are fragments of visual imagery throughout our landscapes that we create associations, feelings or events with, and then reference through our day-to-day lives consciously and subconsciously. Considering the debris of everyday life with our personal and cultural associations, artists inherently present these fragments as proof of cultural belief systems, perception, experience and identity.
